Sustainability
Sustainability and jewelry—two words you don't often hear together.
One of the major challenges in the jewelry market is over-production. Typically, when you want to buy a necklace, bracelet, or earrings with different ornaments, you end up purchasing the same base product multiple times just to express your individuality.
There are two main reasons for this:
- First, jewelry companies make more revenue by selling you essentially the same base item with a new charm or design.
- Second, most brands don't prioritize creating systems that encourage efficient and sustainable purchasing behavior.
Jewelry has been a part of the human experience for thousands of years, with evidence of early pieces dating back 100,000 years during the last glacial period. This form of expression is not going anywhere, but we can make efforts to minimize the waste we produce through our artistic expression.
Jewelry is more than just an accessory; it's a form of art, a statement of individuality, and often a vessel for sentimental value. It's natural for jewelry wearers to want something new to express their individuality, and that desire will change over time.
However, we can't ignore the environmental impact of jewelry production. For example, every ton of gold mined releases 38,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Deforestation is also a concern—just one gold wedding ring requires the mining of 20 tons of earth.
At CLÀT, we've created an ecosystem where you can acquire a base necklace, bracelet, or earrings and never have to replace them. You have the freedom to purchase different ornaments to express your individuality without needing to buy more base pieces. Additionally, all our jewelry and packaging are made from recycled materials. Any waste or defects in our production process are melted down and reused.
We also engineer our jewelry to have multiple uses, wherever possible. The benefits of our ecosystem for both you and the planet are clear:
- You'll minimize your expenses by not having to purchase duplicates.
- You'll have the opportunity to be creative and change your look daily.
- We'll reduce the number of toxins released into the environment.
- You'll feel good about it
Ultimately, the goal is to ensure we're doing our best to leave the earth in a better place than we found it.
